April is Magazine Month

Have you read your Rotarian Magazine today?

And Now... We present to you

District Governor Curlee's Corner

This has been a great Rotary year for me because I've gotten to meet new Rotarians, work with outstanding individuals, and I feel we are making a difference in our communities and our world. I wear my Rotary pin proudly and don‘t miss many chances to tell others about Rotary. "Are you a Rotarian? No, why not?"

I want to thanks PDG Jim Osbon for all the help he gave me in preparing for this job. And also for DGE Ronney Reynolds who has been invaluable in working with me to keep me better organized, on track, and in line. There are many others to thank and I appreciate all who have and continue to help me do my job. Rotary offers many opportunities to serve, please step forward to take on tasks others shun. Let me know if I can be of help.

Priorities:

Growth in membership: Grow your club, get ideas from District Membership Chair, Amy Millsap.

Growth in Clubs: give help to District Club Extension Chair Ruth Allison.

Clubs that are meeting: Liberty Hill and Silicon Hills of Austin.

Those that are building: Waco "Cosmo like", Hewitt, Lampasas, and Rosebud.

Foundation Giving: be the leader in the zone again as we have in the recent past. Money in before June 30.

Finish the local grants: do the projects.

Look for clubs that want to have a matching grant: Marble Falls needs partners from our district. They will handle the details. Contact them.

Send and receive GSE: look at the article in this newsletter and go to the blog as listed in the article. Then finish the grants.

Club Events for the district calendar: let David Gonzalez DAVE@PCH-AUSTIN.COM know what fund raisers or special events you have coming up so the rest of the district will have an opportunity to participate.

Each clubs looks to qualify for the club’s PRESIDENTIAL CITATION by April 1. It seems the two items that are sometimes missed are:

1. Net one new member for your club. Some of the clubs are well past that number and needs to maintain that momentum. Some clubs need to really concentrate on getting just a few more members before April 1, 2008 due date to complete the requirements for the Presidential Citation.

2. To have an international project. There are several ways to do this and quite frankly this is so easy no one should miss out due to an international project. Check your Presidential Citation info to see all the things that can be done to earn this and you’ll again see it is easy. The District still has a lot of money to match if you want to do a matching grant project. You can also go to www.rotary.org and search for World Community Service and find a number of opportunities that are very inexpensive but will help you qualify. Please don’t miss this part.

GSE
Our Group Study Exchange team is hard at work preparing to go to Italy in April. We will have 5 team members: Suzanne Koneful is an Independent Producer from Austin, Jade Walker is a Fine Artist/Creative Research Director at UT Art Facility from Austin, Kim Willis is Marketing and Communications Assistant for The Seton Fund from Round Rock, Alicia Dietrich is in Public Affairs for Ransom Center from Austin, and Amanda Stairrett is a military reporter for Killeen Daily Herald from Killeen. Normally we have 4 but team leader Kay Trub (is an Inde-pendent Producer) says this group of 5 is outstanding and will serve our district well.

Italy will be sending us 5 team members as well, three
attorneys and two teachers.

Training
With this year over ½ done we are beginning to plan for the future.

An Important Message from James Damato
to District Governors

As you may know, Rotary Clubs in the USA, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands with gross receipts in excess of $25,000 are subject to IRS regulations, and must file an informational report based on their gross receipts. Starting this year, clubs with less than $25,000 in gross receipts are also required to submit an informational return to the IRS. Failure to do so will jeopardize their tax exempt status, and may result in a fine. Click here for a one-page summary of the requirements as outlined by the IRS. Please include this important announcement in your July or August newsletter, your district web site and other district communications so that it reaches all of the clubs in your district.

Thank you for your service to Rotary!
